Below are answers to common questions about using and troubleshooting your Printio Direct Wired Print Module for iPad photo booth printing.
How do I know if my Printio is working?
On the top of the Printio, near the heat sink, there is a status light.
Status Light Meanings
Blinking Red:
The Printio has fully booted and is ready to use.
Blinking Green:
The Printio is still booting or may be experiencing a startup issue.
How do I know if my Printio is powered on?
You can confirm the Printio is powered on by checking for:
- Blinking status lights on the top of the unit
- Ethernet port lights when the Ethernet cable is connected
If neither light is on:
- Verify that the USB-C power cable is securely connected.
- Confirm the power source is working properly.
- Try using a different power adapter or USB-C cable if necessary.
Why can’t I access printio.local even though the Printio is fully booted?
If the status light is blinking red but printio.local does not open, try the steps below.
1. Verify the Ethernet Connection
On your iPad:
- Open Settings.
- Look for Ethernet on the left side.
If Ethernet does not appear:
- Unplug and reconnect the Ethernet cable.
- Reconnect the USB hub.
- Make sure the USB hub is properly connected to the iPad.
2. Check the Ethernet Settings
Within the iPad Ethernet settings, confirm the following:
Configure IP: Manual
IP Address: 192.168.10.99
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
After entering the settings, make sure to save the changes.
3. Allow Extra Startup Time
Sometimes the Printio may take longer to fully initialize.
Wait up to 5 minutes after booting. If it still does not respond, power cycle the Printio by unplugging the power, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in.
4. Inspect the Printer Cables
Make sure all printer cables are securely connected.
If you are using your own USB printer cable, use a high-quality cable for best results.
Recommended cable length: 4 feet or shorter
A shorter, higher-quality printer cable can help improve communication between the Printio and the printer.
Why is my Printio not fully booting?
If the Printio is:
- Stuck blinking green
- Not lighting up at all
- Not completing the startup process
The microSD card may be corrupted.
The Printio operating system runs from the microSD card. If the card becomes damaged or corrupted, the Printio may not be able to start properly.
What is the solution if the microSD card is corrupted?
The microSD card will need to be replaced.

Helpful Tip: Cloning a Working Printio microSD Card
If you have multiple Printio units, you may be able to clone the microSD card from a working Printio to restore the non-working unit.
This can be helpful if one Printio is working properly and another unit is not booting due to a damaged microSD card.
How do I change the color settings of my prints?
To adjust the print color settings:
- Open printio.local.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Select Color Settings.
From there, you can modify options such as:
- Brightness
- Contrast
- Saturation
- Other available color adjustments
These settings can help fine-tune the final print output.
What is the proper power cable for the Printio?
The Printio uses a USB-C power cable and power adapter.
The power adapter should supply at least:
5 Volts (5V)
Most standard USB-C chargers meet this requirement. For best results, use a reliable charger that provides stable power.
How many printers can one Printio connect to?
Each Printio can connect to:
One printer at a time
If you want to use multiple printers at the same time, you will need:
One Printio per printer
What else do I need besides the Printio kit to set up my iPad photo booth?
In addition to the Printio kit, you will need a reliable USB hub to connect the Printio directly to your iPad.
Using a high-quality USB hub helps ensure stable communication between your:
- iPad
- Printio
- Printer
For best results, avoid low-quality hubs or loose adapters, as these can cause connection issues during events.
